Most transportation in Bangladesh is by water, although the government is now concentrating on developing road and rail links. A major bridge is currently being built across the Jamuna River, which bisects Bangladesh from north to south. The $500-million project has suffered numerous delays and is now due to be completed in 1996. Bangladesh's two major ports, Mungla and Chittagong, are being upgraded to take advanced container ships.
